Outdoor Adventure Programme with Waitematā Police: A Huge Success!

In a remarkable partnership between Youthtown, Waitematā Police, and with funding from Aktive, we recently delivered an extraordinary outdoor adventure programme for a group of lucky kids. Over the course of four action-packed days at Ōrākei Basin and Motu Moana, participants enjoyed a range of activities that combined adventure with valuable life skills, such as teamwork, leadership, and confidence building.

The programme was designed to give kids from various backgrounds a chance to experience the outdoors in ways they never had before, while learning and having fun. From navigating the new activities to completing exciting team challenges, the children were immersed in experiences that many described as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

One parent, thrilled with her son’s experience, shared, “My son attended all four days and loved every moment. He came home tired but full of joy, wishing the programme lasted the entire school holiday! I’m so thankful he had this opportunity, as we wouldn’t have been able to afford something like this on our own.” The parent also praised the Youthtown staff for their professionalism and ability to connect with the kids, ensuring they were well taken care of throughout the programme.

This initiative not only provided an engaging holiday experience but also offered a much-needed resource for families facing challenges in accessing school holiday programmes. The partnership between Waitematā Police and Youthtown highlights the importance of community-based programmes that support the holistic development of young people, particularly in providing accessible opportunities for all.
