Something to keep the kids busy this holidays!

Check out our little movie review plus one of the kids favourite recipes.

COOKING UP A STORM!

We love a bit of cooking here at Youthtown. In fact most of our programmes include something food related every holidays! At Totara Park one of their favourite after school projects is to cook or bake some tasty treats. A top recipe pick for them at the moment is Pancakes & Pizza! You can make something tasty too. Here is our quick and easy recipe to make Pancakes!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup self raising flour (150g)
  • 2 Tbsp white sugar
  • ½ tsp finely grated lemon zest (optional)
  • 1 cup milk (or Soy/Rice milk) (250ml)
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 30g butter, melted (or margarine)

Method:

  1. Sift self raising flour and white sugar into a medium-large bowl. Make a well in the centre of the dry ingredients.
  2. Add the lemon zest, milk, egg and melted butter/margarine and whisk to combine.
  3. Heat a large non stick frying pan over medium heat and grease lightly with butter or oil.
  4. For each pancake, place 2 tablespoons of batter into the pan. Cook for 2 minutes or until bubbles form on the surface. Turn and cook for a further 1 to 2 minutes, or until pancakes are cooked through.

WHAT TO WATCH?!

We love heading to the cinemas with our winter holiday programmes, grabbing some popcorn and getting comfy to enjoy the latest release!

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. PG

Rated 9/10 on IMDB this is one to watch with the kids. Sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse this movie follows the story of Miles Morales, spider-man of his time and explores the notion that "being Spider-Man is a sacrifice". Praised for its clever animation and story telling, your kids won't want to miss it!

The Little Mermaid. PG A reimagining of the 1989 animated, this movie provides a new perspective of Ariel. Directed by Rob Marshall, this film has picked up some big names in the cast including Melissa McCarthy as Ursula. Some write it is "the best Disney live action movie I've ever watched. Halle Bailey was amazing and, her voice was absolutely breathtaking. The movies quality was flawless, and the cinematography was amazing! Would watch again!" Although maybe not suitable for the littlest viewers, with the live-action elements heightening the perils of the film, like the shark chase, storm at sea and shipwreck. After watching this film you will definitely have the song "part of your world" on repeat after watching this.
