Fizzing Sidewalk Chalk!
Let's get our science on!
This task will test your science knowledge plus keep the kids busy for 30-45 min as they create their own experiment.
Here is what you need:
- 2 cups Baking soda
- A couple drops Food colouring
- 1 cup Cornflour
- ¼ cup Water
- ¼ cup Vinegar
- 1 Spray bottle (for the vinegar)
Make sure to find a good area to test this out (a concrete area is best!)
Method to make the paint:
- Mix together the baking soda and cornflour/cornflour.
- Add a small amount of water and stir together. Continue to add water until the consistency is close to finger paint.
- Divide the mixture between 4-5 bowls(you can also use a muffin tin as pictured).
- Add food colouringto create different vibrant colours; stir to combine.

Activity instructions:
- Make the sidewalk paint
- Create designs using the paint, may need to occasionally stir the paint as the cornflourmay settle atthe bottom of the bowl.
- To activate the fizzing paint, fill one spray bottle with the vinegar and spray onto the paint.
- Watch the paintings fizz!
