Work and Income (WINZ) Out of School Care and Recreation (OSCAR) Subsidy

The Out of School Care and Recreation (OSCAR) Subsidy is a payment which helps families with the costs of before and after school care for up to 20 hours a week, and school holiday programmes for up to 50 hours a week.

There are eligibility requirements, which include but are not limited to income thresholds. See full details here.

Please see the table of the subsidy that you may be entitled to for 20 hours of after/before school care and 50 hours of holiday care per week. You will need to apply to WINZ as per the process below, who will confirm how much subsidy you will get each term and holiday period.

A WINZ OSCAR Subsidy form must be submitted for each and every programme you enrol in. The form must be submitted before their deadline and before the start of the programme.

You will need to pay the difference between the cost of the programme and the subsidy amount.

Example: If you earn less than $1,099 dollars a week and qualify for the full subsidy of $6.52 an hour.

Please note:

  • These are the costings are for 1 April 2025 - 31 March 2026
  • The maximum hours for WINZ OSCAR subsidy support are 20 hours for ASP and 50 hours for Holidays.
  • The amounts are shown as a per-hour rate, not all our programmes run for the maximum amount of time.
