Urban Unity Holiday Programme
Come along to Youthtown in the school holidays and hang out with people your own age in our youth space. We've got all sorts of things to keep you amused like DVDs, Playstation2, and a pool table. You can take part in organised in-house activities like art and craft, sports or cooking. We also go on cool daytrips like rock climbing, blo-karting and the movies and in the summer time we visit as many beaches as possible! So now you got no reason to be bored in the school hols.
Short Film Challenge & the Reel Short Film Festival
Youthtown Filmworks presents the annual Short Film Challenge. Starring anyone with passion and imagination, our film making workshops run every Saturday for 8 weeks during Term 2 every year.
Already the next Peter Jackson and don't need to come to the workshops? Then make a film to enter into our short film making competition and be in to win cool prizes, have you film judged by an industry panel and played on the big screen at the Academy Cinema. The Short Film Challenge is launched every year in March.
So you love film-making and have lots of time with nothing to do during the summer school holidays? Then get busy making a short film to submit to the Reel Short Film Festival. We love seeing what young film makers are up to so if you have already have a short film then we want you to submit that too . If your film meets our minimum time and quality requirements we'll play it on Festival Night in February.
What is the Urban Unity Events Squad?
Urban Unity is made up of young people between the ages of 14 – 18 who want to make a difference in their youth communities. We organise and run events and activities out of local Youthtown centres. Belonging to the Urban Unity is an awesome opportunity to hone those leadership skills lurking inside you dying to get out!
We have great partnerships with Youthline and the YMCA to make sure you get all the support you need. But being a part of Urban Unity is not all work - you get to network and socialise with other young people who are involved in other youth programmes Auckland wide.
So if you have some amazing ideas for events that you and your friends would like to run in your community then ring …… and ask to speak to the Youth Co-ordinator for more info.
Workshops
Youthtown hosts one workshop per term which covers a whole range of topics from the law and you, busting myths about food and exercise to screen printing and graff art. There is something for everyone
Outdoor Days
Outdoor days are usually held in the summer time. The days are all about fun, adventure and getting out there to try something new. There is so much on offer you can chose to try kayaking, sailing, ropes courses, mountain biking, surfing and Blo-Karting at the beach.
