Not only does Youthtown Central in Nelson Street have an onsite fitness centre, but also included in your membership are three squash courts and a 25m heated indoor swimming pool!  Let our qualified and dedicated fitness instructors help you achieve your goals!  Whether its weight control, cardio fitness or sports conditioning, our team will make sure you stay on track and ensure success!

Meet Dominique.

Dominique is our Senior Fitness Instructor & Head Trainer.

Specialty: Strength and Conditioning, Olympic Weight Lifting, Power Lifting, Mobility and Injury Prevention, and Sports Specific Training

Interests: Any kind of strength sports, combat sports (freestyle and greco-roman wrestling, kick Boxing, boxing, martial arts, and MMA), Basketball, American Football, Crossfit, and Athletics

Personal Statement: As a fitness professional, I feel that it is my duty to constantly better my knowledge in exercise science and nutrition to be able to consistently provide a quality service to my clients, this is why our gym members are able to put their full confidence in us to help them reach their fitness goals. I hope to inspire the Youthtown Fitness family with my love and passion for health and fitness.

Our members are exposed to a wide variety of innovative exercise methods catering to fitness goals ranging from athletic strength and conditioning, rehabilitation and injury prevention, weight management and general fitness

Regular Programmes:

Fitness Foundation: For individuals who wish to achieve an overall basic level of fitness. This includes gaining the necessary mobility, strength and endurance to perform basic tasks in everyday life or in sport and recreation. This program would include a heavy focus on technique and skill development to teach individuals how to move their bodies correctly and safely during exercise.

Personalised Programs: For individuals with very specific needs and fitness goals. We understand that there is no such thing as an average person and every individual’s goals, bodies and fitness needs are different. Personalised programs are strongly encouraged so that our team of fitness experts can ensure that you reach your fitness goals.

Conditioning: What most gyms call “getting fit” we call conditioning. At Youthtown, our team of fitness professionals take our members’ fitness goals seriously which is why we offer the latest in conditioning tools such as Kettle Bells, Battling Ropes, Plyometrics and Agility equipment etc. To enrich the exercise experience of all gym members these exercise methods are regularly used in programming for members’ of all fitness levels.

Functional Weight Management: Our fitness professionals are trained to ensure healthy and functional weight management. For the non-athlete looking to lose excess body weight; our fitness professionals will ensure that you reach your goals in a manner which fosters healthy and functional exercise habits. For the recreational and competitive athletes wishing to reach a specific weight for their respective sport; our fitness professionals will ensure that you can do so without hindering your performance but instead improve it by reaching optimal body composition.

Functional Hypertrophy: For individuals who wish to learn how to exercise to gain weight which directly improves physical performance in any endeavour whether specific or general. Our fitness professionals excel and specialise in training individuals who wish to gain lean muscle and achieve optimal body composition. Our facility is especially designed and equipped with a wide variety of free weights and training accessories for functional hypertrophy.

Olympic Weightlifting: For individuals who wish to learn the necessary skills and gain the necessary mobility and strength to perform the Snatch and the Clean and Jerk. Olympic weightlifting can be used to improve your strength, explosive power and speed in any sport both competitive and recreational. This classical training method can also be used to improve any non-athletes’ base mobility and coordination. This is why this training method is a big part of our exercise philosophy and our regular programming. Our fitness professionals are trained to teach this exercise method from novice to advance athletes.

Power Lifting: For individuals wish to learn the necessary skills and gain the necessary mobility and strength to perform the Squat, the Benchpress and the Deadlift. Powerlifting can be used to improve your overall strength as well as functional weight gain or weight loss. Moving external load is an activity used in everyday life for athletes and non-athletes alike. We use this exercise method to teach how to lift external load safely and correctly for individuals of all levels of fitness and strength.

Specialty camps

These camps are for individuals who wish to excel in the particular aspects of fitness mentioned below. The camps are structured as group fitness classes for individuals with very specific goals. They are scheduled throughout the year depending on demand.  Current specialty camps available include:

Sports Conditioning Camps

These camps are designed for individuals (or teams) wanting to improve their athletic performance for their respected sports whether recreational or competitive. The camps are generally scheduled during the off-season of the sport, whilst other sports camps can be run year round, depending on demand.

Fitness facilities are open for member use from 6.30am – 10pm weekdays and 9am – 5pm during the weekend. Members must be at least 15-years-old to use the gym.

 Please note Youthtown Central runs popular after school and holiday programmes. These generally run from 3pm – 6pm (during school terms) and 9am – 5pm (during school holidays). This is when Youthtown Central is at its busiest with young people. 

Squash

Youthtown runs an adult social squash league on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights from 5pm – 8pm. Each league runs for approximately five weeks with beginner, intermediate and advanced grades.

Anybody can join the squash league; Youthtown membership is not required.

Learn to swim programmes

Youthtown Central is home to a 25m heated swimming pool, available for use by Youthtown members, outside of the Learn to Swim programme times.

New Zealand’s leading swim school Hilton Brown operates out of the pool, providing private lessons in a happy and safe environment. As well as catering for beginners, Hilton Brown Swimming has coached a number of New Zealand’s highest achievers in competitive swimming including Paul Kingsman, Anthony Mosse and Rick Wells.
