Hi I’m Leigh Peters, and after working in the Not for profit sector for 10 years, I’m delighted to be the Branch Manager for Youthtown Nelson Street. We have a fantastic range of activities and programmes to keep you entertained after school or during the Holidays.
Check out our After School programmes for years 0 – 6, our Youth Squads and sports and outdoor programmes around Auckland or our awesome snow club! Perhaps you prefer working with your hands and creating fabulous pieces of art?
Our fantastic Art Studio has everything you could possibly need to bring out the artist within. Fancy yourself as the next Peter Jackson? Check out our annual “Jump Cut” Short Film Course and work with industry mentors to produce your very own short film.
Come along to Nelson street, shoot some hoops, have a swim and hang out with your friends, we look forward to seeing you!
After School

The after school programme has something for everyone aged 5-13 years old. Run by experienced, caring and dedicated staff, the programme takes place from 3pm – 6pm weekdays during School term.
5-6 Year Olds Programme
The junior programme is all about making new friends, being creative and getting active.
We provide a lovely bright and well resourced room exclusively for five and six year olds, with lots of new toys and games to play with. We have a highly experienced and nurturing team of supervisors and tutors dedicated to looking after your child and teaching them new skills. Activities include;
- Fun Trips ( 2 x per term)
- On-site swimming
- Cooking
- Art and Craft
- Interactive themed workshops
- Sport, games, and free play
- Assistance with homework
- Participation in one of our Term clubs
- Pickup from school and afternoon tea included.
Our Junior programme is designed to prepare little ones for the emotional transition to the older, after-school programme.

7-13 Year Olds Programme
Whether your child wants to tackle their homework, unleash their creative side or gear up for some sporting action, we run a great range of activities as part of our after school programme.
Set in a safe and nurturing environment, each afternoon is kicked off with a ‘fair play’ briefing and a delicious afternoon tea (menu is displayed on notice board for parents’ reference).
Activities are based around a term ‘theme’ as decided on by the children. Activity areas are structured as follows:
GYM
Fun team games like soccer, badminton and volleyball are run regularly each afternoon as well as our brand new “Fit Kids” programme a group exercise class designed by our fantastic fitness instructors specifically for 7-13 year olds. A healthy and productive way of burning excess energy!
COOKING
The interactive kitchen operates three times a week and is a great place for kids to master fun and simple recipes (not to mention the art of cleaning up)!
ACTIVITY ZONE
The ultimate place to chill out after a hard day at school! Sing Star, Buzz, Xbox and Wii are just some of the cool things kids can get up to.
REC ROOM
Dress ups, pool, table tennis and board games.
DISCOVERY CENTRE
Who knew learning could be so much fun?! The Discovery Centre is a place where kids can launch into their homework under the watchful eye of our Discovery Centre supervisors. Once homework is complete, fun quizzes, board games and other cool activities make the Discovery Centre come to life!
THEMED WORKSHOPS
An assortment of interactive fun workshops every term introducing kids to new activities, hobbies or experiences and encourage natural investigation and skill based learning.

Children enrolled in Youthtown’s after school programme can choose to join specialist clubs at no extra cost! New clubs are added each term which means fun and learning at Youthtown is forever evolving! Current Clubs include:

Rain, hail or shine!
Whatever the weather, nothing can dampen Youthtown’s after school programmes. During the warm summer months, programme coordinators will often arrange visits to local parks and beaches (with parental consent of course), while programmes are run indoors during the winter.

FREE BREAK AWAY HOLIDAY PROGRAMME (Ages 11-17)


Ask at your school’s reception or student centre for your application form. (If none at your school, EMAIL fiona@youthtown.org.nz and request a pack to be sent to your local school.)
Break Away is a MSD holiday programme that is FREE to all teens ages 11-17 from areas around your school. Youthtown works hard to provide quality adventurous activities other than just tag or Frisbee in the park (but we will have some wicked games of tag too) All outdoor pursuits are Outdoor Mark Safety audited.
Spaces are limited and it’s on a first come first served basis.
This is not means tested, full and accurate residential address from the following wards required for FREE access to this amazing programme:

Youth
Drop in, hang out
Youthtown Central opens its doors seven days a week. Anyone under the age of 18 can drop by between 6pm – 10pm weeknights and all day during the weekend. If you’re keen to kick back, Sky TV, table tennis and a pool table are available to enjoy, while our basketball courts and heated swimming pool are also ready to use!
Jump Cut - Short Film Challenge

Fancy yourself as the next Peter Jackson? Keen on developing your passion and skills for film making further? Jump Cut is a youth short film challenge for any skill level. We also have Auckland based film workshops with industry professionals to help develop you into the film maker you want to be!

Sports in the Park

Sports Programme at Victoria Park/Skate Park - Monday 4pm to 6pm
Come and participate in fun sport games and learn leadership and teamwork skills
An awesome place for 13-18 year olds to have fun and make new friends.

Boxing Programme at Youthtown Central
68a Nelson Street, Auckland City
Tuesdays and Thursdays 4.30pm to 6.00pm (during term time) $5.00 per session or $45.00 for a 10 concession card.
In addition to learning boxing skills and techniques, this programme focuses on developing the necessary fitness and explosive power required for boxing success. Training sessions will include supervised sparing to those who are willing and skilled enough to protect themselves. Participants will learn pad work and heavy bag training techniques, and finally participants that are wanting to compete in amateur boxing will be able to via NZ boxing.

Art & Creative
Art studio
Art sessions are run as part of Youthtown’s wider school holiday programme. Kids experiment and explore a range of artwork techniques, creating masterpieces which they take home afterwards.
Our fabulous art studio is well resourced with all sorts of interesting mediums to bring out the creative flare in anyone.
The art tutors at Youthtown are available to facilitate on and off-site workshops for schools and community groups. With specialist skills in clay, sculpture, painting, print making. We can arrange morning, evening or weekend workshops for small or large groups.
Below are a taster of some of the awesome art programmes that we run during Term:
After school programme art
This is a time to experiment with art media in a relaxed creative environment. Learn new techniques and processes while having fun with your after school friends.
No extra costs if enrolled on ASP. Tutors, Georgia Clark, BDVA Unitec, Mason Vincent BVA, AUT.
Holiday art
During the school holidays we run an innovative art programme. Take advantage of this opportunity to learn new skills and experiment in a safe nurturing environment. Classes are developed and co-ordinated by practicing art college graduates. We have paid and unpaid options available, check out the holiday programme brochure for details of activities and art trips.

Starship Hospital free holiday art programme
Teen lounge over 12yrs old. The art activities are available to patients their friends and families to enjoy. A specialized programme is designed for this age group.
Atrium 5+ We have designed this programme to help families through what can be a stressful and tiring process. All patients, their siblings and friends can get together in the Atrium from 10.00 – 3.00pm during the school holidays. The art and craft activities provide a creative outlet for everyone who wishes to join in the fun.
Community art programme
‘On site’ Youthtown art studio. Schools and community groups are invited to Youthtown for art workshops. These can be designed specifically for your needs, mosaics, screen-printing, collage, print-making and more. Collaborative or individual options are available. Local primary schools have taken advantage of our amazing rates and facilities and now have large scale artworks installed in their grounds and buildings from these workshops.
‘Off site’ at festivals events etc. We run art workshops at local events and festivals, Grey Lynn, Auckland, Pasifika, Titirangi Music, Bloom, Storylines festivals to name a few. We have several large artworks installed in local libraries and hospitals that were made at these festivals. Invite us to your community festival to provide a creative experience for everyone at your event.
S.P.A.C.E. special place for art and creative endeavours
Designed for special needs groups and held at Youthtown art studio during school hours. For the past 8 years we have offered this programme to APET and Spectrum groups.
We can arrange times that suit your individual groups needs.
FUSE Ceramics
Tuesdays 7-9pm, teenagers and adults, tutored by Matt McLean, renowned award winning local potter and ceramist. This class is suitable for beginners and experienced potters. Classes cover hand-building and wheel throwing and 3D sculptural work.
Firing and glazing costs included in the term fees.
Saturday Art House
Year 1 -8 students are invited to create artwork to celebrate their favourite storybook character, from Harry Potter to Cat in the Hat. Young artists will experiment with print-making, clay, painting, sculpture, screen-printing and wearable art processes during the 8 week term.
Start Date: 18th May
Time: 10.30 – 12.00pm
Cost: $120.00 (For 8 weeks)
Tutor: Vaughan Shepherd, experienced and qualified teacher

ART Birthday Parties
Choose from our amazing arty party range, mosaic mirrors, ceramics animals, clay and glass tiles, mirror mobiles, photo-frames, photo-booth, face painting. We can co-ordinate the use of the swimming pool and gym facilities to ensure a fun, safe event for your group.
Cost: min 8 children $250.00.
Weekend and evening workshops.
Corporate team building. Spend an evening or Saturday afternoon working together to develop sharing and caring amongst your work team. We will work with you to create a collaborative artwork to display in your shared office space or assist you in making individual works of art to take home.

Outdoors
Snow Club

Youthtown's Snow Club is a dedicated ski and snowboard club for kids of all abilities. Continue the passion, make friends, fine tune your existing skills or learn something new.
Whether you've never seen snow before or you're already ripping it up and want to perfect your board slide, the Youthtown Snow Club is for you.
The club runs for 8 weeks (starts 2nd week of term). The club includes transport to/from Snowplanet, gear hire & entry, instruction and supervision.
Pick up/drop off locations are Youthtown Auckland Central and Youthtown North Shore.
Dates: Tuesdays, Term Two 14th May - 2nd July
Time: 3.45 - 7.00pm
Age: 7 - 17 years old

Venue: Snowplanet in Silverdale (Auckland's only indoor ski slope)

Snow Adventure Camp

Hit the Mt Ruapehu slopes these school holidays with Youthtown’s ever popular Snow Adventure Camp! Whether you’re a pro in the snow or have never set foot in it, this awesome camp is sure to make your winter holidays even cooler!
Led by a team of trained outdoor instructors, including ex-Olympic skier Ben Nanasca, the camp is equipped to ensure each participant experiences skiing and snow boarding in a fun and safe environment. This camp includes adult supervision, accomodation, food, transport, gear hire, lift passes,ski & snowboarding instruction.
Snow Adventure Camps are always action-packed!! Activities such as mountain biking, caving, rock climbing and visits to the hot pools are all on offer if Mt Ruapehu’s ski field is ever closed.

Youthtown’s mobile ‘Outdoors’ department has been providing programmes for Schools, Community and Corporate Groups for over 20 years, offering single team work activities through to one week leadership development programmes. These challenging and ‘perceived risk’ based activities will assist in developing personal self- confidence, group leadership and team building qualities that can be transferred to all areas of life.

Under each of these programmes we include an aquatic element which instills and develops water safety awareness skills and knowledge.
Learning Objectives/Outcomes for Youthtown Aquatic Programmes are:
- To be able to confidently use sail or paddle sports equipment such as sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, stand up paddleboarding plus more in a correct and safe manner.
- To manage self in a variety of weather and environmental situations and know when it is safe to go out on the water.
- To explain and demonstrate safe and sound basic skills in sail and paddle pursuits.
- To develop understanding and use of specific terminology with the aim of relating to others.
- To demonstrate the Youthtown Values of Responsibility, Innovation, Leadership and Enjoyment through everything we do.
All of our programmes are in line with the New Zealand Curriculum and encourage student learning while in the outdoors.
Auckland Adventure
There is so much to see and do in and around Auckland. Being in close proximity to natural, clean amenities and parks offers so much choice and diversity.
Youthtown Outdoors offers organised day programmes by experienced and qualified professionals. All equipment and safety is taken care of. Just turn up and have fun!!

Kiwiana Camp
2-5 days duration: All equipment, planning, instruction, transport and safety management is taken care of.
- Beautiful safe beaches and estuary, golden sand, paddlesports, windsports and camping under the stars in. All only a couple of hours drive from Auckland.
Education outside the Classroom (EOTC)
Youthtown Outdoors Department provides hassle free educational focused programmes in the Auckland area.
Strict ratios and structured lessons allow for maximum fun and learning.
Youthtown Outdoors offers a range of water based activities to suit all levels, and group needs.
Our Primary Aquatic Site:
Orakei Basin is a closed salt water basin. It has a fortnightly flush schedule that keeps the water fresh. It’s closed perimeter (excluding the river mouth) provides the perfect balance being sea experience without risk of rips and tides.
It is approximately 1-2m deep throughout.
Our aquatic programme at this site has OutdoorsMark accreditation.
