Update on Youthtown is in the News
As an update to our communication on 3 November 2017, this is to advise that the issue in regard to allegations about a former staff member is now before the courts, following charges of unlawful sexual connection, indecent assault and indecent communications with a person under 16.
I want to take the opportunity to reiterate that all of our staff undergo background checks and police vetting before starting employment with us, as the safety and wellbeing of our participants is our highest priority.
We have comprehensive policies and procedures including Health and Safety and a Code of Conduct, regarding how our prgrammes are delivered - and we invest in training our staff to uphold these.
We care about our participants and their families and we have also been working with the family involved in the allegations to support them at this time.
Youthtown has an 85 year history of delivering high quality programmes to hundreds of thousands of young people throughout New Zealand. We are committed to its vision to "Empower young New Zealanders to be the best they can be" and we are proud of our work, delivering values based programmes that develop knowledge and skills in young people.
