Term 4 with Tana
Tana Umaga, Youthtown’s Sports Programme Ambassador has been getting right amongst our programmes this term, as well as behind the scenes supporting the Sports Teams’ Training.
The Sports Teams deliver during school time for Primary and Intermediate Schools across New Zealand, as well as after school and in holidays at our Youthtown sites, for ages 5-18.
Tana was with us at Cowles Stadium, Christchurch, earlier in the term to take part in one of our regular sessions with Chisnallwood Intermediate, then went on to the After School Programme based at Linwood Avenue School nearby.
More recently, Tana was a key player in ‘Capture the Flag’, one of a variety of Team Cooperative Sports Games that Anchorage Park School students (in Pakuranga, Auckland) have mastered with our Auckland Sports Team over the year.
The Sports Programme continually builds on and adds variety to the range of activities on offer to participants.
Weekly staff training, led by experts in each Sports Code, ensure that this is delivered in a consistent way across the country to maintain a high level of physical literacy outcomes.
Tana joined the National Professional Development Day yesterday, to support the preparation of the Holiday Programme Sports Clinics coming up and inspire the team’s commitment to live Youthtown’s values that they promote to the kids (including physical activity to build motivation and physical confidence).
These Christmas Holidays, as part of the overall Holiday Programme, all Youthtown locations will offer Multi-Sport Clinics that allow children to learn about and take part in a wide range of sports!
